A Life Like Yours

Residential

In 1999, The Arc of Southside, formerly the Danville ARC (DARC), opened a group home on the same site as the Hatcher Center, to provide a safe and affordable housing option for adults with developmental disabilities. The result was Faith Home, a 15-bed group home, exclusively serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In 2012, The Arc of Southside realized that the people we supported deserved something different. They deserved more privacy. More choice. And more opportunity to be a part of the community — not segregated within a group defined by a shared disability.

That's why today, we support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities exclusively in their own homes or apartments.

The Arc of Southside supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities exclusively in their own homes or apartments, providing individualized, supported living, and in-home services. We support people up to 24 hours a day, helping them to live successfully within the community.

We support a diverse group of people with wide-ranging needs. The more complex the disability — be it intellectual, developmental, physical, or emotional — the more intensive the support. In all cases, our goal is to help people live the life that they choose.

Our approach emphasizes flexible, therapeutic, and creative services designed specifically for that individual. Our individualized service approach allows us to support people with a range of disabilities, in the way that works best for them. So while some receive intensive support, others may just need occasional help with cooking, budgeting, or learning a new bus route.
