The Arc of Southside was founded in 1954 to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc of Southside has changed dramatically over the past 7 years, shifting from a traditional facility-based model to an inclusive community-based model of support, currently serving over 100 adults and children in Danville, VA and the surrounding area. Driven by a passion to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities striving for a fully inclusive life in the community, The Arc of Southside provides residential, recreational, vocational, and transitional services.

Opportunities exist across services to develop programming, engage and train staff, and build processes to ensure consistent high-quality care. In partnership with The Arc of Southside’s staff, Board, volunteers, and individuals served, the Director of Residential Services will expand and operate a best-in-class residential program for The Arc of Southside.

This full-time position requires some evening and weekend hours and reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of The Arc of Southside’s residential program, including planning for future growth.
  • Develop and manage annual budget for residential program; oversee record keeping and reporting to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a member of The Arc of Southside's leadership team, representing the needs of the residential system internally and externally via committee work and partnerships
    with local organizations and communities.
  • Work with The Arc of Southside’s leadership team to build a 3-5 year strategic plan for
    residential services.
  • Hire, train and supervise mid-level managers responsible for individuals served; oversee the hiring, training, development and evaluation of all residential staff and create cost efficient staffing practices/plans.
  • Establish program and performance standards to ensure consistent quality service delivery.
  • Build and cultivate relationships with individuals served, staff, and families.

Preferred Skills:

Qualifications & Skills:

  • BA (required)/MA (preferred) in human services or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including managing and developing staff.  Must demonstrate strong understanding of the challenges faced by this population and their families.
  • Must demonstrate solid understanding of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and the Virginia Department of Medical Services (DMAS) licensing regulations.
  • Experience in managing residential services within Virginia’s Developmental Disability Waiver system, strongly preferred. 
  • Thorough understanding of the application and management of benefits such as Medicaid, Social Security, EBT/SNAP, Section 811, etc., strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of HUD regulations in regards to the Fair Housing Act and Section 811, strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading inspired and motivated teams, building confidence in others, and demanding accountability.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and communicate a compelling vision.
  • High energy and strong drive to achieve goals; ability to pursue opportunities and quickly resolve challenges.
